#10 The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)

Legend of Zelda games have been going strong for over twenty-five years! Our favorite Nintendo hero is back in his green cap and sword. This time around we’re in the skies where Link and Zelda call home. Instead of Zelda being the damsel in distress, she and Link are similar in their status and both help solve pieces of the quest. Those who own a Nintendo Wii and are looking for a fun and entertaining adventure would do well to jump into Skyward Sword as the amazing story is one to be remembered.

#9 Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (PS3)

“Uncharted 3″ takes Drake along another thrilling adventure. Like past games, you can expect an outstanding story and exceptional voice acting. The fun factor is still kicking, and leaves you wanting more at the end of the game. It seems like environments change so rapidly that you’re left on your toes thinking of a way to escape and continue the fight, while the tricky puzzles can also give you a a sense of achievement

#8 Gears of War 3 (360)

Gears of War is one of the strongest living Xbox 360 exclusive franchises. Marcus Fenix – the game’s protagonist – is getting pretty sick of the war waged against the Locust Horde. During the past two games of the series, we learn more about the squad and have grown to care for their safety and empathize with their passion as they endure the elements, fighting these unknown creatures. I’m not going to ruin anything from this game, but those of you who have played the second will not want to miss out on the third entry. You may want to cross your fingers at the end, but that’s all you’re going to get out of me!

#7 Astro A40 Wireless System

Those looking for a headset to game will want to take a look at the Astro A40 Wireless System. Marked with an official MLG seal, you can expect the best overall sound quality from this beast. Included is a MixAmp 5.8 that will balance game and voice giving an out-of-this-world 7.1 Surround Sound effect – that’s not all, though – you can even crank up the bass with a feature on the MixAmp known as the “Bass Expander” mode.

#6 Kinect (360)

Microsoft stepped up the motion control competition with the Kinect. This new technology brings the entire concept of controller-free gaming to a whole new level that we have not seen since the days of the EyeToy on the PlayStation 2. Kinect is essentially the same thing as the EyeToy when it comes to the very basics: you stand in front of a webcam and you use your body to play through several games. However, the technology behind the Kinect blows the EyeToy out of the water; the device is able to recognize your entire body, and the voice recognition makes for some interesting gameplay.

#5 Nyko Zoom

Alright, right after I give praise to the Kinect, there is a slight downfall: Microsoft’s Kinect requires a rather large space to play some of the games, especially when it comes to two players. This is where Nyko steps in. With the Nyko Zoom, you simply add a special attachment to the Kinect which will decrease the range originally required to play by 40%. A perfect gift for those who are limited to a smaller play area.

#4 Skyrim

Skyrim, named VGA’s “Game of the Year”, is a must have for any hardcore gamer. Developed by Bethesda – who also developed the past “Elder Scrolls” games – this game kicked the holiday season into high gear. Those of you who have played past games of the series will remember the expansive land, quests, skills, and the entertaining adventure. You could also probably remember the now bland textures and horrid character models – Skyrim takes everything that the series lacked and gave it an overhaul. The lands are filled with incredible sights and sounds while the characters actually look splendid. Don’t worry, though: everything you enjoyed from past games are here as well!

#3 Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo’s next gaming portable comes with a truly advanced component: 3D. 3D technology has recently become a hot ticket item, as we have seen outstanding movies in 3D and now the sale of 3DTVs. Nintendo went one step further by giving their current DS portable a 3D outlook. The 3DS has the ability to turn on glasses free 3D gaming and play titles including: Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Starfox 3D and much, much more. Nintendo even threw in a 3D camera to take videos and pictures entirely in 3D.

#2 Microsoft Xbox 360

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has been a great console and now bundles are available with the new motion device, Kinect. When purchasing a Microsoft Xbox 360, you’re not just buying into a game system, but an opportunity to take part in the “Live” access; meet up with friends, play games, and purchase online games from arcade hits to indie developers – all of this, while also being able to play through a list of Xbox 360 exclusives including the likes of the Halo and Gears of War series.

#1 Sony PlayStation 3 Slim

We can argue and point fingers all day at which console is better, but our number one choice is hands down the PlayStation 3. This is a premium gaming machine and an excellent Blu-ray player. Not only does it have the exact same online components as the Xbox 360, but you don’t have to pay for the online access; play your favorite games free online with friends and family all over the world and pick up downloadable picks from the PSN marketplace. Do yourself a favor this holiday season, and pick up a PlayStation 3 for your gamer.
