Joe Euteneuer, Sprint’s CFO narrowed down the launch of LTE phones on Sprint considerably. The new timeline has LTE equipped smartphones in the second half of 2012.  Coverage is set to cover 120 million people by the end of next year, and 250 million people by the end of 2013. WiMAX support will continue into 2015, but no numbers were detailed for that service. It’s becoming quite clear that LTE will be the favored child on the Now Network.

Even so, Verizon has been selling LTE equipped phones for nine months now. AT&T is on board as well since launching with two gorgeous LTE equipped phones, and it continues to put on the heat with announcements like the LG Nitro HD. Can Sprint remain relevant with WiMAX in the year long lapse until LTE comes to market? Maybe so, AT&T customers didn’t seem to mind HSPA+ ‘faux-G,’ maybe the technology matters less than the branding.
